I'm currently in my third year of University studying Event Management at Sheffield Hallam, however I'm not actually at Uni right now ..confused?!. At Sheffield Hallam, our third year consists of a year out in Industry. We are required to work a minimum of 48 weeks in an Event Management based Job before returning back to University in September to finish our final year.

I chose to work at a Mental Health Trust in Manchester and I work in the Marketing and Communications department. I am loving working there so far. I've been on Placement for 6 months and it's flown by, I can't believe I'm already half way through! I work in a small team of 5 people and our job is to ensure that staff throughout the Trust know about upcoming events, courses as well as putting on events for the Trust.


I was really worried about moving to Manchester to start my placement and I'm not going to lie, at the beginning I didn't know whether I'd stick it out or quit, however after taking the first month to settle in, I now feel so glad I persevered as I'm learning valuable things that I know will be beneficial for my final year.



So far on placement I've helped organise the Annual Members Meeting & Staff Awards which was held at the Lowery Theatre in Salford which was such good experience. I've also worked at a Dragons Den event, various other service events and am currently organising Governor Training events.

I am a very organised person so this job is just perfect for me! I love events and cannot wait to go into final year and hopefully pursue a career in the events industry.
