‘You are beautiful – no matter how flawed you feel, no matter how upset you may be about the way you look or how hard you find it to make friends, or to be confident. Believe in yourself, and never let anyone tell you you’re not beautiful – not even yourself.’ Em Ford
Today I thought I'd share my thoughts on My Pale Skin Blog’s #youlookdisgusting campaign as I have just watched it on the way to work so thought "why not write a post about it!".
I think it's so important to feel comfortable in your own skin. It's something I've always struggled with but now I've learnt to just think "who gives a shit". If someone else doesn't like how I look then who cares, as long as I feel good about myself and the people who I care about don't judge the way I look, then that's all that matters.
When I was younger and when I lacked confidence, I always used makeup as a way to hide my face. I've been wearing makeup since I was a teenager but now I don't feel the need to wear it every single day, I can go out in public without it and I don't care if people stare at me because as long as you feel comfortable then that's all that matters.
I think that one of the reasons that I don't always wear makeup every day is because I'm lazy and I simply just can't be arsed, but also because I've got a good skincare routine sorted and I feel like this has helped my skin a lot. I still suffer from dry patches on my face but If my skin is particularly irritated, I just lay off the heavy makeup for a bit.
Having just watched Em Ford’s #youlookdisgusting campaign (you can watch it here), which is about the double standards of beauty and the unrealistic expectations from society and the media on how we should all be ‘perfect’, and I felt like sharing my opinions on it. It's an extremely powerful video all about how people judge one another and I think this video will show people that you don't have to hide your face. If you haven't already, you should go and check out Em's video. Feeling confident in your own skin is so important. Always remember that YOU are beautiful. You may not be perfect, you may have imperfections, but you are still beautiful and no one should ever make you feel differently.
I have not watched the video, but I have seen it several times on social media, I will be checking it out. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely check it out! It's so powerful! XX
DeleteI absolutely hate wearing makeup so I just never wear it. =) There's so much pressure by society to look like everyone else, skinny and fully painted. I'm so glad it's being put out there that we ARE beautiful, because WE say so, not society.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with you 100%. People shouldn't judge one another, we're all different, but we're all beautiful!
