THE BEST PROPS FOR BLOG PHOTOS

Over the last couple of years of blogging I've seen my photography game change. Now I'm not by any means saying that my photography is amazing because lets face it I know it's not, but I have started to explore different ways of making my photography stand out a bit more and use different props and materials to give my photos something a bit different. I recently shared with you my blogging essentials which got a lot of love and this post is hopefully going to help you when it comes to making your photos stand out and be even better so that you can improve the quality of your blog.

I really love photography and since I've purchased my Olympus Pen camera I've started to fall in love even more. If I could go back in time to Sixth Form I'd love to have done a photography course. I've booked onto one in the new year in order to help me become better at it and I'm very excited for it.

Anyway, It's not all about the camera you have! I've been taking my blog photos over the years using my iPhone and although the quality isn't incredible, it's definitely ok and using different props definitely helps so I thought I’d share with you a few of my favourite props in the hope that it might help some of you guys!

1. BACKDROPS/FLOOR SAMPLES
Floor samples and backdrop backgrounds are amazing if you don't own a marble table top or chic wooden floor. I got some made from the amazing guys at Pixel 2 Print (read all about them here) and I love them. I chose a marble backdrop, wooden floorboards and a brick wall. You can also get some amazing floor samples from places like B&Q or Dunelm Mill.

2. COLOURED CARD
I love adding pops of colour using coloured card for my photos. White card is also very effective for a beauty product shot. You can pick up coloured card from basically anywhere. Poundland/Pound World always do cheap packs of pastel card or even places like Ebay. I need to snap up some more colours to switch things up a bit on the blog.

3. RIBBON
I've only recently started adding ribbon to some of my posts and it adds quite a nice twist. You can use colours that go with the theme of your post or relate it to the seasons. I can't wait to snap up some red, green and gold for Christmas blog posts! (I'M WAY TOO EXCITED).

4. BLANKETS
Who doesn't love a good old Primark blanket hey? Why not use your fave new blanket to add some texture to your photos? My cream and gold primark blanket is great for this. I am also lusting over a cream faux fur rug because I just need one, y'know!?

5. JEWELLERY OR CLOTHING
I have so many pieces of jewellery lying around my bedroom and endless amount of clothing bulging out my wardrobes so why not utilise them and add them to a blog photo?

6. FAKE FLOWERS
I love me some fake flowers. You can pick them up pretty much anywhere these days, primark do them, Pound world and Homesense do some gorgeous ones too. I feel like every flat lay needs a bit of floral peeking in the corner of the photo. I can't wait to purchase some autumnal/winter bunches soon.

7. NOTEBOOKS/COOKBOOKS/MAGAZINES
Ok, so I'm going to admit it. I'm a notebook hoarder. I just LOVE a good notebook. I get them for birthdays, Christmas .. you name it. I mean you can never have too many notebooks right? They come in so handy for blog photos though. I also like to add magazines (although I never buy them as often as I used to, which is a shame because you can't beat reading a good old glossy mag on a train journey to London). Cookbooks are also a good prop to add to your photos.

8. FAIRY LIGHTS/ LIGHT BOX
I'm a fairy light lover, and when it comes to Christmas time, my flat will be a little grotto illuminating the street. I love adding them to blog photos and I can't wait to play around with my camera settings to enable the blurry lights in the background of a photo. I also have one of those light boxes that I got for my birthday and I often like to use these in the background of photos too. They add a little bit of fun to the photo. I am eyeing up the peg boards too at the moment which add some monochrome goodness to your shots.

What are your favourite blog props? Do you use anything that I don't? I'd love to know in the comments below.
