HOW TO AVOID SLEEPLESS NIGHTS

[This post contains gifted items]

With the recent house move and living out of the flat and the house whilst we got ourselves sorted, my sleep pattern has been awful! In June I went to Glastonbury and I obviously didn't sleep the best when I was there because, let's face it, sleeping on the floor just isn't comfortable but since then I've just not been able to get back into a proper routine.

Back in early July, Benenox got in touch to ask if I'd like to try out their overnight recharge food supplements which are designed to help fuel your body for the day ahead. I was a bit reluctant to try them because I don't really tend to think anything more than just getting an early night can help with sleep but I was quite surprised by the results.

I don't really tend to wake during the night but it takes me SO long to get off to sleep so I end up scrolling through instagram and then hours later I find I'm still wide awake. As part of the #IWentToBedLikeThis campaign Benenox sent me two flavours of the overnight recharge; Lemon and Ginger and Blackcurrant*.

The supplements contain the following ingredients:
  • Honey - which is well known for it's health benefits and the mix of natural sugars helps to boost glycogen stored in the liver to use during the night
  • Sustamine - a combination of two amino acids, L-Alanine and L-Glutamine, which help the liver to store glycogen by slowing absorption of honey in the stomach
  • Vitamin B6 - which has been shown to reduce tiredness and fatigue while supporting psychological function, helping you to feel more energised the following day.
The supplements are suitable for vegetarians and you just need to pop 15ml in the cap and take it before bedtime. Now I personally do not like the taste of it when doing it that way and it reminds me of taking horrible cough medicine when I was younger, but I've found that by diluting it with hot water it tastes much better. My favourite flavour is definitely the blackcurrant one!

In terms of whether it works, I was definitely surprised by the fact I work up feeling more energised! I started to think I must've have been dreaming it! I have been trying to get into more of a routine recently with having a longer commute in the morning so I've been going to be a bit earlier than I did previously but having this hot drink before bed really helps to make feel more relaxed and when I wake up I feel much more refreshed. It's such a simple thing to add to your evening routine and at only £9.99 from boots they last so long! I'm not even half way through and I've been using them for a month every night before bed! I'd definitely recommend giving them a try if you struggle to get off to sleep.

  3. These sound amazing, I really struggle with sleeping through the night (it sounds silly at the age of 23, but it's true) so I might have to try these x

  4. After a night of tossing and turning and never sleeping, it is not a good idea to get behind the wheel of a car. At the time, you will probably be in a bad mood, just need to get to work, and not really care.

  6. Transforming your night from a sleepless ordeal into hours of rest and restoration starts with finding the reason for your insomnia. Once you've identified the reason (or reasons), you can take action.
